Dr. Phil has been quite sucessful during the course of his lifetime. He is currently a psychologist, life strategist, and a television host.

Personal Life & Background ---
Dr. Phil, a very recognizable name, was born in 1950 in Oklahoma. He was raised both there and Texas. Throughout the years, he grew up to be a linebacker at his school and was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Tulsa. He ended up finishing his degree at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Four years later, he received his master's and Ph.D. in psychology at the University of North Texas. He ended up opening a practice in his father, who was also sucessful in attaining his psychology degree. After working in private practice for a while, he decided that one on one therapy wasn't something he was interested in. He eventually launched a self-motivation seminar called Pathways that was quite sucessful. Then in 1989, he built a company called Courtroom Sciences which provided trial lawyers the use of psychology in the courtroom. Because of his creation of Courtroom Sciences, Dr. Phil met Oprah Winfrey. They met because in 1996, she was being sued by cattlemen who claimed she defamed the beef industry on one of her shows. Oprah decided to hire Dr. Phil to help her during the trial. Dr. Phil ended up helping her win her case in 1998 and short thereafter, started to regularally appear on her show dealing with life strategies and relationships.

In fall of 2002, he launched his tv series, Dr. Phil. This one hour talk show received the highest ratings of any new syndicated program since the launch of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Aside from conducting motivational seminars across the country, he is the author of six New York Times bestsellers, those in which are Life Strategies: Doing What Works, Doing What Matters; Relationship Rescue: A Seven-Step Strategy for Reconnecting with Your Partner, Self Matters: Creating Your Life From the Inside Out; The Ultimate Weight Solution: The Seven Keys to Weight Loss Freedom; Family First: Your Step-by-Step Plan for Creating a Phenomenal Family and Love Smart: Find the One You Want, Fix the One You Got.

Community Involvement ---
Dr. Phil has his own charitable foundation, which is called The Dr. Phil Foundation. It raises funds to help fight childhood obesity as well as helping to support charitable organizations that help address the emotional, spiritual and monetary needs of many children and families. It also is comitted to helping children and families at risk.

Why I chose Dr. Phil ---
I personally chose this person because I think Dr. Phil has influenced me in some way or another. I used to religiously watch his show after school because some of the topics he would discuss were inspirational and helped me learn a few things. Some of the things Dr. Phil talks about, a lot of people are unaware of prior to watching his show. Dr. Phil has a huge influence on todays society. He provides people with tips and techniques to further better themselves and be sucessful.
